ROBERT J. HALLY, M.D.

Robert J. Hally, M.D. received his Medical degree from Temple University in 1989 after finishing his undergraduate degree at the University of Scranton. He then spent the next three years in residency training in internal medicine at the University of Pittsburgh. Following this, he returned to his native Philadelphia to complete his gastroenterology/hepatology fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. During his time at Jefferson, Dr. Hally published several articles in national GI journals.

After completing his fellowship in 1994, he joined a private gastroenterology practice in the Philadelphia suburbs, and became active in teaching internal medicine to residents. During his tenure there, Dr. Hally won several teaching awards, including Teaching Attending of the Year. In 2001, he moved to Virginia to join the doctors of Digestive Disease Physicians. He was Chief of the Gastroenterology section at Inova Alexandria Hospital for 10 years and currently serves as the Medical Director at the GI Endoscopy Center of Northern Virginia.

Dr. Hally’s particular areas of interest include screening for colon cancer, gastroesophageal reflux, inflammatory bowel disease, endoscopic treatment of biliary stones, and diagnosis and management of chronic liver disease. In addition to being an experienced endoscopist who has performed over 25,000 endoscopic procedures, he believes in a patient-oriented approach to medical care, and puts emphasis on listening to the patient. He has been named as a “Top Doctor” in Washingtonian Magazine, Northern Virginia Magazine, and checkbook.org.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Hally enjoys golfing, yoga and traveling with his wife and their three children. He is interested in endurance sports, has completed multiple triathlons, and finished the 2017 Boston Marathon.
